Funeral services for Howard Glen Lowery, 80, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roger Fancher officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Lowery was born February 2, 1931 in Zavalla, Texas to the late Georgia Gray (Cryer) and James Monroe Lowery, and died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in a local hospital.
A former resident of Houston, Mr. Lowery had resided in Lufkin for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a longshoreman with the ILA Local #28 in Houston for 28 years. Mr. Lowery was a member of the Bald Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Alice Marie Lowery of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Shiree Rice of League City, Suzann and Robert VanArsdal of Alvin, Darlene and Kirwin Abshire of Pearland and Glenda Lowery of Homer; grandchildren, Shane and Jacqueline Hodges of Friendswood, Kara Rice of League City, Leah Wood of Pearland, Jessica Hayslip of Lufkin, Matthew Wood of Pearland and Monica Hayslip of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Clayton Hodges, Chandler Hodges, both of Friendswood, Hunter Newell of Alvin, Makayla Foote, Erin Modisette, both of Lufkin and Coby Heath of League City; sisters, Dorothy Dorsett, Jeannette Hunt, both of Bald Hill and Doris Mitchell of Zavalla; brother, Roy Lowery of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Hodges, Matthew Wood, Clayton Hodges, Chandler Hodges, Robert ""Van"" VanArsdal and Robert Kirwin Abshire.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Bald Hill Baptist Church.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
