Jose Rivas

Mass of Christian Burial for Jose Rivas will be celebrated Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Reverend Francis O'Dowd and Reverend Raymundo Garcia officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Rivas, 65, of Lufkin was born November 26, 1946 in Durango, Mexico to the late Teresa (Manriquez) and Jose Rivas Gallegos. He died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at his residence in Lufkin.

Mr. Rivas was a retired forklift driver for Texas Foundries following 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Formerly a resident of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, Mr. Rivas had lived in Lufkin for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Maria G. Rivas of Lufkin; daughter, Brenda M. Rivas of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Violeta A. and Eleazar Carrillo, Jr., of Lufkin; granddaughter, Nadya I. Carrillo of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Socorro Rivas of Eagle Pass, Maria Teresa and Roberto Lopez, and Maria Del Refugio and Zeferino Cruz, all of Lufkin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tobias and Juanita Rivas of Austin, Francisco and Lidia Rivas of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and Juan Enrique and Martha Rivas of Lufkin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceding Mr. Rivas in death were his parents and a son, Jose Juan Rivas.

Pallbearers will be Juan Enrique Rivas, Tobias Rivas, Eleazar Carrillo, Jr., Francisco Rivas, Rosember Garza III and Juan Manuel Garza.

Honorary pallbearer is Rosember Garza II.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
