Funeral services for Ronnie Cartwright, 57, of Wells, will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Wells with Brother Horace Fletcher and Brother Josh Luellen officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Cartwright was born August 29, 1954 in Lufkin, Texas, and died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in a Lufkin hospital.
Ronnie graduated from Wells High School in 1972. He worked as a log cutter from 1972 until 1975. In 1975, he went to work for Southland Paper Mill and was employed there for the next 28 years. He was employed by Lehman Pipe and Steel of Pollok for 5-1/2 years, and was currently employed at Aspen power in Lufkin. Ronnie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wells. He loved to hunt and fish, and was a member of the Delbert Jones Wildlife Management Club (Beaver Creek). He was also a member of the Wells Community Homecoming.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Jerri Gail Cartwright of Wells; daughter, Leah Cartwright of Houston; daughter, Veronica Cartwright and boyfriend Andrew Shields, who are both currently serving in the U.S. Navy in Virginia Beach, Virginia; mother, Emily Ellen (Oliver) Cartwright of Wells; mother-in-law, Betty Pounds of Wells; sisters-in-law, Lisa Cartwright of San Augustine, Dorothy McMillion, Georgia Heflin, both of Wells, and Rita Torres of Hudson; nephews, Jason Cartwright of San Augustine, Todd Pounds and Steven Monday, both of Wells, Roe Pounds, Jared Wofford USMC, and Jeremy Pounds, all of Hudson; niece, Raye Lynn Hibdon of Pollok; pet, Cammi Grace; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mr. Cartwright in death were his father, Floyd Oscar Cartwright; sister, Debbie Cartwright; brother, Bryan Cartwright; nephews, Jeremy Wallace and Michael White; niece, Kristen Cartwright; and beloved pet, Cricket.
Pallbearers will be Danny Cutshaw, Phillip Dew, Carty Williams, Joey Burke, Lanny Reeves, Mark Hopper, Danny Colbert and Edward ""Buck"" Chapman.
Honorary pallbearers are the Boys of Beaver Creek.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
