Funeral services for Wayne Gillespie, 70, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Bud Davis officiating. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Chinquapin Cemetery in San Augustine County.
Mr. Gillespie was born April 9, 1942 in Nacogdoches County, Texas, to the late Clemmie (Allen) and R.L. Gillespie He died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Gillespie enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with the grandchildren. He was a generous and compassionate businessman. From the rental stores, the sawmills, and his real estate ventures, he touched the lives of many. Mr. Gillespie had resided in Lufkin for the past 35 years.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Barbara Gillespie of Lufkin; his children and their spouses, Tammy Denny of Cushing, Terri Gillespie-Tullos and Terry Tullos of Apple Springs, Aaron and Shelia Gillespie of Huntington, Robert Sowell of Centerville, and Bobby W. and Tracy Gillespie of Centerville; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Tina Gillespie of Nacogdoches, Robert and Diane Gillespie of Kountze; aunt and uncle, Betty and James Gomilla of Hammond, Louisiana; four nieces; one nephew; and a host of friends.
Preceding Mr. Gillespie in death were his parents and a brother, Tommy Gillespie.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Parker, Reagan Gillespie, Colt Denny, Sterling Sowell, Jacob Sowell and Austin Guillory. Honorary pallbearer will be Kip Miller.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
