Funeral services for Reverend F.R. Slaughter, 82, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Forrest and Brother Olen Rivers officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Reverend Slaughter was born February 15, 1930 in Frankston, Texas to the late Ora Elmer and Lula Bell (Williams) Slaughter, and died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in a Houston hospital.
Reverend Slaughter had resided in Lufkin since 1970, previously residing in Jasper. He began pastoring in 1959 and was the Pastor of Harmony Odell Missionary Baptist Church at the time of his death. He truly had a pastor's heart, as he was involved in BMA work with his helpmate of 60 years, Daisy, at his side. He worked at the Army/Navy Store for over 20 years, where he enjoyed his fatherly relationship with Keith and Pam Gilbert.
Survivors include his children, Patricia Ann Slaughter of Huntington, Bennie Ray Slaughter and wife Kathy of Mesa, Arizona, Billy James Slaughter and wife Angela of Lufkin, Bobby Lynn Slaughter of Lufkin, Edward Elmer Slaughter of Kirbyville and Miranda Sue Glover and husband Mitchell of Lufkin; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Jackie Lavern Roper of Amarillo; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Slaughter; and brothers, Jack Slaughter, Buddy Slaughter and Billy Jack Slaughter.
Pallbearers will be Kerry Slaughter, Chris Slaughter, Mark Slaughter, Josh Slaughter, Taylor Slaughter, Jacob Slaughter, Trenton Slaughter and Little Eddie Slaughter.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Slaughter, Shane Slaughter, Curtis Fisher, Josh Nair, Jon McGinty, Deacon Danny Winskie and Deacon Truman Hall.
