Laura Mae Hopkins Terrell

Funeral services for Laura Mae Hopkins Terrell, 79, of Zavalla, will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Shawnee Church of Jesus Christ near Huntington with Brother Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in Zavalla Cemetery.
Laura Mae was born June 1, 1933 to Warren and Jimmie Austin Hopkins of Zavalla, Texas and went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2012. Laura Mae was the big sister to her family of seven children. She graduated as Salutatorian from Zavalla High School in 1950 and began working for Tisdale's Grocery. She married W.H. ""Bill"" Terrell on January 5, 1952 and moved to Houston, Texas. Laura Mae was an accountant and worked for various businesses in the Houston area, retiring from her son's business, Terco Pipe & Fabricating in 1993. Laura Mae moved back to Zavalla in 1993 and became involved in numerous civic activities including serving on the Zavalla City Council, Zavalla Beautiful Clean, currently serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Zavalla Cemetery Association.
Laura Mae was the driving force for the construction of the Veteran's Wall & Memorial Brick Walkway at Zavalla High School Gymnasium and the Veteran's flag on the hill at Coleman's.
In addition to her husband, Bill Terrell of Zavalla, Texas, Laura Mae is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Diane Terrell of Troy, Texas; and grandson and wife, Wil and Belinda Terrell. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Yvonne and Marwood Buford of Huntington, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law Jimmy Earl and Nelda Hopkins of Tomball, Texas, and J.P. and Lavon Hopkins of Zavalla, Texas; sisters-in-law, Eulavia Hopkins and Faye Hopkins of Zavalla, Texas. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces, who thought Aunt Laura Mae was the best: Janet, Annloria, Danelle, Waunesa, Teresa, Brenda, Jamie, Aleta, Edwin, Ouida Kaye, Carl, Sharla, Terence and Kevin, and numerous other great and great-great nephews and nieces.
In addition to her Daddy and Mama, Laura Mae was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne Hopkins, Dan Hopkins and Bud Hopkins, and nephew Richard Hopkins.
Pallbearers will be her great-nephews, Barry Gates, Justin Gates, Brandon Gates, Daniel Brashear, Treyton Puntch, Sam Buford, Andy Buford, Aaron Hopkins, Jacob Hopkins, Josh Hopkins and Joe Hopkins.
