George W. Glidden

Funeral services for Rev. George W. Glidden, 88, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Rev. Jackson Colwell and Rev. Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesville Cemetery.

Reverend Glidden was born August 4, 1923 in Orange, Texas to the late Amanda E. (King) and Frank Louis Glidden, Sr. He died Sunday, July 15, 2012 in a Lufkin assisted-living facility.

Reverend Glidden was a retired Yard Master for Southern Pacific Railroad, following 43 years of service. He also served as a Baptist minister for 51 years. Reverend Glidden had pastored numerous East Texas churches including Saron Baptist, Johnson Missionary Baptist, Fuller Springs Missionary Baptist, Fairview Baptist, First Ora Baptist, Nedville Baptist, and Pine Forest Baptist Church. He was currently a member of Fuller Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Glidden served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He had lived in the Lufkin area most of his life, and enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Alliene Glidden of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Don Crager, Neva and Don Brown, all of Lufkin; grandsons, John Jerke, Troy Jerke, Chad Ogden and wife Kim; six great grandchildren, Trent Jerke, Skyler Jerke, Katelyn Jerke, Lauryn Jerke, Carter Ogden and Krysta Gray; as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceding Reverend Glidden in death were his parents and brothers, Frank Glidden, Jr., and Grady (Gene) Glidden.

Pallbearers will be John Jerke, Troy Jerke, Skyler Jerke, Chad Ogden, Vince Lieb and Jerry Carlisle.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
