Joe Warren Beckham

March 31, 1922 — July 24, 2012

A Memorial service honoring the life of Joe Warren Beckham, 90, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church with Reverend Art Callaham officiating. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Joe was born March 31, 1922 in Brownwood, Texas and passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, July 24, 2012. He was a gentleman of great character who always put his family first. He taught us about life by his giving nature, hard work, and unconditional love. He always had a smile on his face.

Joe served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he worked as a code breaker and cryptologist. After the war he received an engineering degree from the University of Texas. Joe was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity which helped him to meet his wife of 56 years, Marge Chambers, at one of their functions. Joe headed the design and development team for Texas Foundries and retired after 38 years of service. Joe had a servant's heart, serving on the board of Texas Foundries, Wilson McKewen Treatment Center, and the Texas & National Boards of Professional Engineers, as well as the Vestry & School Board of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, where he took great delight chairing the breakfast committee to feed hungry churchgoers. He loved to cook, and enjoyed laughing with us at all the stories he told of his boyhood adventures in Brownwood.

Survivors include his daughter, Carol Beckham of Lufkin, son, Blair Beckham of Fort Worth, and the rest of the Beckham and Chambers clan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge Chambers Beckham; son, Phillip Chambers Beckham; brothers, John and Robert Beckham; and parents, Earnest A. Beckham and Mae Blair Beckham.
