Charles ""Buster"" Groze, 74, of Lufkin died Monday, August 6, 2012 in a local hospital. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Groze was born July 15, 1938 in Trinity County, Texas to Vernon and Mary Alice (Wright) Groze. He resided in Lufkin most of his life.
Mr. Groze entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and received an honorable discharge in 1961. He was a sharpshooter, expert gunner tank and 1st class gunner. Mr. Groze retired from the Ironworkers Union Local 84.
On April 7, 1988 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Slaughter. Buster had many illnesses, but he mostly died from a broken heart. His beloved wife of 24 years passed away May 31, 2012.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Katrina and Patrick Kelley of Huntington, Sharon Slaughter and Teresa Basham, both of Lufkin; sons, Matt Collier and Sean Groze, both of Lufkin; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; mother, Mary Alice Groze of Lufkin; three sisters; special friends, Don and Brenda Conley; and a number of nieces and nephews.
