Funeral services for Travis W. Carrington, 88, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Billy Jackson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Carrington was born October 10, 1923 in Marshall, Texas and died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in a local nursing home. He had resided in Lufkin since 1955. Mr. Carrington was a lifetime member of the Christian Science Church.
Mr. Carrington was a 1941 graduate of Marshall High School. He graduated from the Real Estate Institute of Farm and Land Brokers, and worked as a real estate broker for 56 years. Mr. Carrington was a member of the Lufkin Board of Realtors, Texas Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors Multiple Listing Service, Exchangers Club, and National Relocation Service. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Carrington had served as President of the Lufkin Association of Realtors, Local Board President of MLS, State Director, Executive Committee, State Finance Committee, and Farm and Land Regional Vice-President.
After 40 years of continuous association membership, Mr. Carrington was awarded the National Association of Realtors Emeritus Status Award. He was inducted into the Lufkin Association of Realtors Hall of Fame in 2004, and in 2005 he received their Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009 he was given the Spirit Award at Century 21.
Survivors include his son, Walton Carrington of Lufkin; granddaughters and husband, Analisha Carrington and Christi and Kevin Burdette, all of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Avery and Nicholas Avila, Kevin and Corie Burdette; great-great-grandchild, Kaiden Nistal; sisters-in-law, Charlene Carrington of Marshall and Dorothy Short of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M.C. and Laura Ann (Brandon) Carrington; wife of 63 years, Florene (Short) Carrington; son, Rodney Carrington; and brothers, Garland Carrington and Emory Carrington.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
