Funeral services for R. G. Bowers, Jr., 69, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, September 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Bailey and Reverend Cindy Doran officiating. The eulogy will be offered by Clyde Herrington. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Bowers was born October 4, 1942 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of Mary Cecil (Bell) and the late Ruben George Bowers, Sr.. He died Friday, September 7, 2012 in a Houston hospital.
Mr. Bowers was the former longtime Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 of Angelina County for 22 years. He also served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Diboll for more than 10 years. Mr. Bowers was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He served his country as a member of the National Guard for 10 years.
In his lifetime, R. G. was called to be a servant, and he fulfilled his calling to so many over his years of service as Justice of the Peace of Precinct 2 and Municipal Judge in Diboll. He never met a stranger and helped everyone he met that needed him. He was a kind, compassionate and carrying man, and was loved by so many. He enjoyed going to his hunting lease and spending time cooking for a large crowd of his friends. He was a man of his word, and he loved all his family, and was always there for them.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Bowers of Lufkin; mother, Mary Cecil Bowers of Lufkin; sister, Pat Wilz of Lufkin; four stepsons; three nephews, Jeff Thompson of Lufkin, Ken Flournoy, Jr. of Spanawa, Washington, and Patrick Flournoy of Lufkin; great nieces, Tyler Thompson, Wendi Flournoy, Wynter Flournoy and Jackie Flournoy; great nephews, River Thompson, Wayne Flournoy, Weston Flournoy and Josh Jones; godson, Lynn Hearn of Lufkin; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Greg Strait, Cole Strait, Lynn Hearn, Murl Ray Luce, Don Morris and Jimmy Cassels.
Honorary pallbearers will be Justice of the Peace Claude Marshall, Royce Garrett, Wade Jabbour and Sheriff Kent Henson.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
