Funeral services for James C. ""J.C."" Womack, 95, of the Nigton Community, will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin. The eulogy will be offered by Joe Mack Deason. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery.
Mr. Womack was born June 24, 1917 in Trinity County, Texas to the late Mattie (Smith) and Edgar Womack. He died Thursday, September 6, 2012 in a Lufkin nursing facility.
Mr. Womack was a retired rancher and a lifetime resident of the Nigton Community near Apple Springs in Trinity County. He was well known in East Texas for his cattle management and, for 60 years, his regular attendance at the Lufkin Livestock Exchange and other local cattle sale barns. He was one of the founders of the Crockett Livestock Exchange and the Groveton Livestock Exchange. Mr. Womack was also a caregiver to many of the families in the Nigton Community.
Survivors include his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy Mack and Margaret Anderson of Lufkin; nieces, Cindy Henderson of Lufkin, Linda Claybar of Orange, Jeri Gutierez of Sugar Land, Patricia Anderson, Pam Anderson, both of Houston, and Janie McVicker of Kemah; nephews, David Anderson of Redwood City, California, George Michael Dickerson of Oxnard, California, and John Anderson of Houston; lifelong friends, Joe Mack and Frances Deason of Lufkin; as well as numerous great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise Womack; and two sisters, Edwina Collins and Margaret Bryce.
Pallbearers will be James Harold Smith, Quenton Deason, Joe Ned Dean, Loy Mack O'Neal, George White and Carson Griffith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennett Cemetery Association, 227 Matt Due Road, Groveton, Texas 75245; or to the Apple Springs VFD, 14755 North State Highway 94, Apple Springs, Texas 75926.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Castle Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center and to Heart to Heart Hospice for their care of Mr. Womack.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin.
