Funeral services for Jack ""PawPaw"" Duran, 79, of Huntington will be held Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Charles M. Roberts and Brother Kevin Roy officiating. Interment will follow in the Knight Cemetery.
Mr. Duran was born June 16, 1933 in Rusk County, Texas to the late John Wiley ""Jack"" and Era Lee (Conway) Duran, and died Sunday, September 30, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mr. Duran had resided in Lufkin and Huntington most of his life. He retired from Texas Foundries following 20 years of service, and he owned and operated Duran Pools & Spas for 25 years. Mr. Duran was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
Jack was lovingly known as ""PawPaw"" to his grandchildren. He adored each one of them and loved being involved in all their activities and sports.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Melba Duran of Huntington; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Dr. David Palmer, Monica Little, and also a father figure to Melanie and Mike Stubblefield, all of Huntington; grandchildren, Lyndsey Little, Hunter Palmer and Halee Palmer; brother, Buster Duran of Henderson; sisters, Betty Johnson of Longview and Doris Bedunah of Fort Worth; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Dorothy Morgan of Diboll and Morty and Louise Halyard of Lufkin; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Duran was preceded in death by his son, John Paul Duran; brothers, Aubrey Duran, Charlie Duran and Bill Duran; sister, Hazel Hancock; and mother-in-law, Minnie Morgan.
Pallbearers will be Dr. David Palmer, Hunter Palmer, Bob Pinner, Mike Stubblefield, Morty Halyard, Dillion English, Bill Little and James Morgan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Waltman, Ronnie Lusk, Ray Carswell, Beamon Scogin, Frank Harris, Milton Hines, and the Huntington class of 2012 varsity baseball boys.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Knight Cemetery Association, 1037 FM 1475, Huntington, Texas 75949, or Denman Avenue Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1351, Lufkin, Texas 75902.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin.
