Steve Allen English

Funeral services for Steve Allen English, Sr., 78, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Ivie Cemetery near Apple Springs.

Mr. English was born April 12, 1934 in Cherokee County, Texas to the late Guy and Ava (Minton) English, and died Sunday, October 14, 2012 in a local hospital.

Mr. English had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He retired from Lufkin Industries following 30 years of employment as a crane operator, and served as union president of Local 429 of the AFL-CIO for over 20 years. Mr. English was a musician, and played lead guitar for numerous bands over the years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Steve, Jr. and Paula English of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Danny Johnson of Searcy, Arkansas; and grandchildren, Shelby and Parker English, Kailey and Chase Johnson, and Jessica and Shane Blackwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shurma English.

Pallbearers will be El Ray Lee, Chuck White, Stephen White, Keith James, Brian Franks and Jack Carroll.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy White and Kerry White.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
