Funeral services for Johnnie M. Maxey, 81, of Diboll, will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Kenny Hibbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery at Corrigan.
Mr. Maxey was born October 31, 1930 in Trinity County Texas to the late Edith (Bass) and Howard Brooks Maxey. He died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Maxey loved Christ, his family and his church. He served as a Children's Sunday School teacher for many years and was a faithful member to the First Baptist Church of Diboll. On February 25, 1967, he married Armatha Maxey and together, they raised five children. Adored by his numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he filled our lives with guitar music, trailer rides behind the lawn mower, and a love for the outdoors. Mr. Maxey reflected the love of Jesus with his dedication to others and faithful heart. Our family rejoices in the fact that our Pawpaw is now reunited with his Lord and plays his music at the feet of Jesus. Mr. Maxey was a dedicated caregiver to his late wife of 42 years, Armatha, throughout her extended illnesses until her death in 2010. He was a retired Mill Superintendent for Temple-Inland, following 27 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and being the pasture rider of the Tower Hunting Club. All of his life, he enjoyed the sound of a guitar and played for friends and family. He was a United States Air Force veteran and had resided in Diboll for the past 45 years.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Charlene and Steve Medina, Larry and Donna Jansen, Teresa and Melvin Ray Thompson, Alice and Irvin McWilliams, Pam and James White, and LaJahna and Justin Harris; grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica Thompson, Stephen and Natalie Jansen, Crystal and Ray Williams, Tiffany and Chris Nash, Shelley and Brad Davis, Trey and Brittinee McWilliams, Nikki and Jeffery Bounds, Chip and Lupita Thompson, Cassie Gay, and Megan and Blake Harris; fourteen great grandchildren; best friend, Betty Jane Smith; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
