Funeral services for Oscar Lee ""Big O"" Hightower, 69, of Lufkin will be held Monday, October 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bob Elliott, Hershel Shoemaker and Gerald Crump officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.
Mr. Hightower was born May 8, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Flurrie and Archie (Miller) Hightower, and died Saturday, October 27, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mr. Hightower was a lifetime resident of Lufkin, and he owned and operated Hightower Auto & Tire Sales for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Lufkin Roundtable and was a supporter of the Angelina County Youth Fair and the Hudson FFA. He was also a board member of the Berry Cemetery Association. Mr. Hightower loved fishing, ranching, and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of Herty Baptist Church and had led the singing in various Baptist churches in Angelina County. Mr. Hightower believed in living right, working hard, and helping others.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Fran Hightower of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jason Fatheree of Dallas; grandson and wife, Grant and Tiffany Hightower of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Kenneth Pinner, Nell and Robert Walker, Carrie and Kenneth Clegg, and Mary Whitley, all of Lufkin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Hightower of Lufkin, Delwin and Linda Hightower of Central Heights, Charles Hightower of Cushing, Bobby Dan and Monica Hightower of Lufkin, and Windle and Donna Hightower of Huntington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Brenda Gibson of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Lee Hightower; brother, Robert Wayne Hightower; sister, Manda Reynolds; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Evelyn Gibson.
Pallbearers will be Steve Walker, Keith Wayne Gaston, Ray Hightower, Jason Hightower, Craig Hightower, Curtis Hightower, Jeff Hightower and Ken David Clegg.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Crump, Hershel Shoemaker, Charles Alexander, Peyton Mathis, Bill Simpson, Charles Arnold, Jimmy Taylor, George Honea and James Gibbs.
