Services for John Elton Blake, 74, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, November 5, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Andy Salagaj and Reverend Bob Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Cemetery.
Mr. Blake was born December 17, 1937 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Wessie Rosella (Havard) and Elbert Bennis Blake. He died Friday, November 2, 2012 in a Lufkin hospice facility.
Mr. Blake was a machinist and a partner in Blake Machine and Repair for 16 years. He loved to hunt and camp with his brothers and his son and grandsons. He also loved to take his wife fishing and traveling in their RV. Mr. Blake was a lifetime member of the Pines Gun Club. He was a member of Lufkin's First Assembly of God Church and the Caleb Camp Sunday School. Mr. Blake served in the Army National Guard, and had lived in Lufkin most of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Diann Sims Blake of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Jody Cook of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Reagan and Nikki Blake of Conroe; grandsons, Page Cook of Lufkin, Colt Blake and Cade Blake, both of Conroe; sister, Bernice Weisinger of Diboll; brothers and sisters-in-law, Berlon and Arvis Blake of Lufkin, Olen Blake of Diboll, Joe and Yvonne Blake of Lufkin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Blake was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Geraldine Edwards; and brother, Carlton Blake.
Pallbearers will be Butch Carnley, Lanny Carnley, Darwin Blake, Bennis Blake, Elbert Blake and Waylon Blake.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
