Fern Lurie Hodges

Funeral services for Fern Lurie Hodges, 92, of Etoile will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Thomas Crossing United Pentecostal Church with Brother Carlos Martinez officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Hodges was born July 29, 1920 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late James Willis and Rosalee (Crisp) Spurgeon, and died Monday, November 19, 2012 in a local nursing home. She had resided in Etoile for 33 years. Mrs. Hodges was faithful to her Lord Jesus Christ and her church, Thomas Crossing United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James V. and Carolyn Hodges of Etoile; granddaughters and their husbands, Cassandra and Steve Campbell of California and Christina and Dean Lusty of Dayton; brothers, James Hiram ""Buddy"" Spurgeon of Orlando, Florida, Raphel Jefferson Spurgeon of Porter and Darius Lee Spurgeon of Fort Worth; sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia Cook of Etoile, Anna Laura Rogers of Montgomery, Alna Ruth Fox of Etoile and Betty and Bobby Porter of Nacogdoches; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Hodges in 1988; sister, Miriam Alene Spurgeon in 1939; and brother, Chalmer Willis Spurgeon, killed in 1944 during World War II.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Fox, Scott Lusty, Randy Allen, Christian Wolmack, Jered Dunn and Willie Wade.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lynn Porter, Terral Porter and Roy Dewayne Rodgers.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, aides and management of Stoneleigh Estates for their care and compassion to their mother.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
