Tassie Barton Edwards

Memorial services for Tassie Barton Edwards, 84, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the PineCrest Retirement Community Chapel with Reverend Art Callaham officiating. Visitation with friends and family will follow. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Edwards was born January 3, 1928 in Baytown, Texas, the daughter of Tassie Verna (Box) and William U. Barton. She passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Edwards enjoyed her education through the schools in Baytown including Robert E. Lee High School and Lee Jr. College, then off to Southwestern University.

Mrs. Edwards worked at Humble Oil & Refining in Baytown and later as an x-ray technician at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. After World War II was over she renewed a school days friendship with returning veteran Paul J. Edwards, and they married December 22, 1951.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown and later became Church Secretary for 12 years. During these years she was active in the Altar Guild, St. Cecilia Guild and enjoyed needlepointing kneelers and cushions for the church, St. James House and Christ Church Cathedral. She designed the cushion kneelers, which depict the Life of Christ, for the new chapel at St. James House. She was a member of the St. James House Retirement Community auxiliary for over 30 years and served on the board of Trustees of St. James House.

In 2008 she and her husband, Paul, moved to PineCrest Retirement Community in Lufkin and moved their church to St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church in Lufkin.

She is survived by her husband, Paul J. Edwards; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Marty Kolackovsky.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, David Paul Edwards.
