Lena Belle Koch Denman

Funeral services for Lena Belle ""Peachy"" Denman, 87, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Henderson Chapel of First United Methodist Church Lufkin with Warren Culwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Denman was born October 13, 1925 in Waco, Texas to Florence (Sossaman) and Victor George Koch. She died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at PineCrest Retirement Community.

Mrs. Denman attended grade school in Lufkin and graduated valedictorian of the Lufkin High School Class of 1942. She entered the University of Texas, graduating in 1946 with a degree in music. While at the University she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, Mortar Board and Orange Jackets. She had lived in Lufkin most of her life, all the while teaching private piano lessons, teaching music in the elementary schools, as well as serving as a caseworker at the Lufkin State School, from which she retired in 1985. Mrs. Denman was a charter member of the Junior League of Lufkin and was active in PTA and other activities in which her children were involved. She was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church Lufkin. Most of all she was a loved mother, daughter, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Cathy and Meb Todd of Lufkin, Jill Amend of Spring, Warren and Barbara Culwell of Austin, and Jana and Michael Mapps of The Woodlands; grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Tricia Todd, Clark and Laura Todd, Jay Todd, Preston and Toni Amend, Aryn and Jacob Guillory, Phillip and Erin Amend, Lauren Claire Culwell and Rachel Culwell, and Alex, Madison, and Rob Trimble; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Bella, Cooper, Caroline, and Cathryn Todd, and Kate, Carter, Addison and Parker Amend; sisters-in-law, Jetta Koch Westerholm and Virginia Culwell; and nieces and nephews, John and Laura Koch, Jetta Ann and Rick McGinnis of Kansas City, Jennifer and Stephen Conway, Mark and Allen Culwell of Houston, and Betsy and Murray Collins of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Peyton Denman in 2007; parents, Florence and V.G. Koch; and brother, Dr. J.C. Koch.

Pallbearers will be John Koch, Chris Todd, Clark Todd, Jay Todd, Preston Amend and Phillip Amend.

The family wishes to thank Dr. David Glenn, the staff at PineCrest Retirement Community, and her loyal companions, Odessa Kegler and Jolyn House.
