Hershel E. Thompson

Funeral services for Hershel E. Thompson, 62, of Zavalla, will be held Monday, December 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lakewood Baptist Church in Zavalla with Brother Harold Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was born August 12, 1950 in Moultrie, Georgia to the late Pauline (Tucker) and Charlie B. Thompson. He died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his residence.

Hershel was a retired Public Safety Officer for the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport following 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a skilled carpenter. Hershel loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Lakewood Baptist Church and the Lakewood Men's Sunday School Class. Hershel was a United States Air Force veteran, and had received an Associate degree in Criminal Justice from Tarrant County Community College. He had lived in Zavalla for the past four years.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Wanda S. Thompson; daughter, Jennifer Thompson Moon and husband Monty; sons, Matthew Thompson and fiancée Kate Blakeman, Mark Thompson, and Christopher Thompson; grandchildren, Dakota and Lauren Moon, Samantha and Noah Thompson, and Cadon Thompson; brothers, Cecil Thompson and wife Carol, Kenneth Thompson and wife Joanne, and Roy Thompson and wife Gloria; sisters, Clara Goff and Gladys Barlow; stepchildren, Angie Erwin, Richard Hinkle, Brian Hinkle and wife Trudie, and David Hinkle and wife Pam; fourteen step-grandchildren; twelve step-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Boulet, Claude Boulet, Byron Thompson, Marcus Thompson, Jimmy Borel and Dennis Ketchum.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Lakewood Baptist Men's Sunday School Class and all the members of the DPS at DFW Airport that he worked with.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Lufkin.
