Pheobia Odessa Hicks Cates

Graveside services for Pheobia Odessa Hicks Cates, 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 12:00 noon in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with Brother Joe Carriere and Brother Bud Bonner officiating.

Mrs. Cates was born December 11, 1932 in Wells, Texas to the late William Emmit and Edna (Sessions) Hicks, and died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in a local nursing home. A resident of Lufkin most of her life, she resided in the Wells area for 10 years. Mrs. Cates loved to crochet, play 88 and 42, and she loved to travel. She was a member of Keltys United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, John and Myriam Cates of Huntsville and Joe Cates of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Jeri and Jerry Redd of Lufkin; grandchildren, Johnny Cates, Robert Cates, Amber Price, Tara Johnson, Jill Brantner and Joshua Redd; great-grandchildren, Barret Price, Maddux Price, Chassidy Johnson and Caleb Johnson; sisters and brother-in-law, Iola Presnall of Wells, Becky and J.W. Sparkman of Clarksville and Mildred Hopper of Wells; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Cates; sisters, Carrie Hamilton and Jerry Brooks; and brothers, Ferril Hicks and Johnny Hicks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Cates, David Cates, Mark Hopper, Kyle Hopper, Kelly Sparkman, Emmit Sparkman, Ross Hicks, Paul Sparkman, David Hopper, Chad Sparkman, Charles Hamilton and Jared Brooks.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rube Sessions Memorial Library, P.O. Box 120, Wells, Texas 75976.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
