Funeral services for Herbert Wayne ""Herb"" Choate, 69, of Pollok, will be held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with William Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Simpson Cemetery.
Mr. Choate was born July 6, 1943 in Pollok, Texas to the late Lela (Gilmore) and Melvin Choate. He died Friday, December 28, 2012 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Choate was a retired pipefitter for Local Union 211 and worked for Easley's Welding for 10 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to tell stories, and he was very good at this. Mr. Choate served his country in the United States Army. He had lived in Pollok for the past 20 years, and previously resided in Angleton for nine years.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nancy Choate of Pollok; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte Eldridge of Diboll, Pam and Randy Hawley of Lake Jackson, Laura and Scott Hollis, and Ashlea Choate of Pollok; grandsons, Jordan Carter and Jared Carter; granddaughters, Madison Durant and Peyton Hawley; sister and brother-in-law, Lenora and Billy Gates of Angleton; brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Barbara Choate of Richwood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Molly Easley of Pollok; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Mr. Choate in death were his parents; daughter, Kimberly Choate; sister and brother-in-law, Maurice and Regan Armstrong; brothers, Charles Choate, Billy Ray Choate, Beaman Choate and Norman Choate; and Michael Durant, father of granddaughter, Madison.
Pallbearers will be Travis Choate, Warren Choate, Kile Choate, Louin Easley, Gene Easley and Darrell English.
Honorary pallbearers are Shawn Morlan, Jordan Carter, Jared Carter, Scott Hollis, Greg Doyle and Randy Hawley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, East Texas Regional Office, 304 North Raguet, Suite C, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family extends a special thanks to Willowbrook Nursing Center.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
