Edmond Daniel Melancon

February 11, 1926 — December 31, 2012

Memorial services for Edmond Daniel Melancon, Jr., 86, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the PineCrest Retirement Community Chapel with Brother Bob Elliott, Brother Trey Ainsworth and Brother Kim Bartel officiating. A visitation/reception will follow in the auditorium. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Melancon was born February 11, 1926 in Ewing, Texas to the late Edmond Daniel, Sr. and Lillian Cortez (Sutton) Melancon. His faith became sight when he met his Savior face to face December 31, 2012.

Mr. Melancon served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Olmstead. He was employed at St. Regis Paper Mill for 35 years before retirement. He was a founding member of Carpenter's Way Baptist Church and a present member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as President of the Childress Sunday School Class. Mr. Melancon was also a member of Brothers of the Cup.

He was a Godly man who loved the Lord and looked forward to the day when he would meet Him face to face. During his last days, the Lord was right there with him, holding his hand each step of the way.

He and his wife Winnie Dell were residents of PineCrest Retirement Community since 2011, where he was loved by all who knew him.

Included among his survivors are his wife of 51 years, Winnie Dell (Shotwell) Melancon of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Bobby Allen of Lufkin, Katie Stephens of Houston, Edwina and Kenneth Baker of League City and Edie and Joe Applewhite of Tyler; grandchildren, Bobby Allen, Jr., Abby and R.J. Harris, Kacie, Kris and Kelley Baker, Josh Athey, Jodie Applewhite, Charlie Melancon, David and Danny Alderman; sister, Betty Ray; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Andy Melancon; daughter, Gail Alderman; infant daughter, Mary Kay Melancon; sister, Bernice Campbell; brother, Dan Melancon; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cleo and Leo Shotwell.
