James W. Gilbert

Funeral services for James W. Gilbert, 78, of Lufkin will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Phillip Snead and Dr. Thomas Snead, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Cemetery.

James was born March 6, 1934 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Lige and Hettie (Read) Gilbert, and died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at his residence. A longtime resident of Pasadena, he resided in Lufkin for 12 years. He retired from the Houston ISD following 37 years of employment in the Maintenance Department. James was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He loved being around his family. He attended the Bald Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Donnah Gilbert; daughters and sons-in-law, Bink and David Marshall and Crystal and Dennis Duvall; son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Lisa Gilbert; grandchildren and their spouses, Davey and Heather Marshall, Anna and Brian Flournoy, Ava and Gary LeMaire, Angie and Mike Podulka, Chris and Brittany Gilbert, Regina and Ryan Handle, Kelly and Jeremy West, Matt and Jill Duvall; 15 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Bob Stites; brother-in-law, Ronnie McKaughan and wife Patsy; numerous nephews and nieces; and many friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers will be Randy Gilbert, Donnie Quarles, Buddy Kluch, Harold Gilbert, David Lowe, Ronnie Kluch and Mike Gilbert.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Gilbert, Ronnie McKaughan, Gerald Gray and David Savage.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bald Hill Church of Christ, 7700 FM 326, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
