Funeral services for Ray Wheeler, 88, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Withem officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Wheeler was born March 12, 1924 in San Augustine County, Texas to the late Arthur and Aurora (Templeton) Wheeler, and died Monday, December 31, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Wheeler had resided in Lufkin for 51 years. He retired from United Gas and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Mr. Wheeler was an avid hunter and fisherman. Also known as ""Pop"" or ""Paw Paw"", he was the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather ever!
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Mary Jo Simmons of Bradenton, Florida and Ray Ann and Randy Baker of Lufkin; granddaughters, Amy Allen of Dallas and Jessica Baker of Lufkin; great-granddaughter, Rylie Ann Skinner of Lufkin; sister, Olene Taylor of Nacogdoches; special friend, Geraldine Smith of San Augustine; numerous nieces and nephews; and the best four-legged friend he ever had, Wickett Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Frances Wheeler.
Pallbearers will be Duane Horne, Don Taylor, Bill Wheeler, Billy Allen, Vince Treadwell and Randy Baker.
Honorary pallbearer will be Kirk Voss.
The family extends a special thank you to Jordan Health Services for the excellent love and care provided to our father and grandfather.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
