Wilburn R. Schrank

Christian funeral services for Dr. Wilburn R. Schrank, 82, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church of Lufkin located at 1001 Atkinson Drive with Pastor Michael Monterastelli and Pastor Frank Starr officiating. A brief celebration of his life in poetry, music and pictures will follow in the Parish Hall. Burial will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Aleman, Texas.

Wilburn Ronald Schrank died Friday, January 25, 2013 in a Lufkin hospital. He was born in Aleman, Hamilton County, Texas in 1930. He attended Tarleton University, Texas A&M University, and NYU, receiving a PhD in Philosophy from A&M in 1967. He joined the Air Force in 1952, and ultimately achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel over a 24-year career.

On June 5th, 1953, Will married the love of his life ? Linda Beth Graves. Will began his teaching career at the USAF Academy, specializing in Math. Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1976, he began his second career as the Director of Science and Mathematics at Angelina Junior College, where he worked for 32 years. Teaching and mentoring students were his passions.

While in Lufkin, Will became a lifelong member of both the Lufkin and Angelina Rotary Clubs, and was a past President of each. He admired the organization, and used both his Christian faith and the Rotary ""Four Way Test"" to provide guidance in his daily life. He enjoyed music and poetry, and has received recognition for his poetry. He enjoyed traveling around the world, good discourse, and good (and poor) jokes and puns.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda Beth Graves Schrank of Lufkin; his children, Lisa Garrick and husband Ken, Jim Schrank, and Lori Schrank and John Juelsgaard; granddaughters, Erin Garrick Espinoza and Allison Garrick Garcia and husband Jerry; great grandson, Desmond Garcia; as well as a number of other family members.

Dr. Schrank was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert B. and Hattie Amanda (Moerbe) Schrank, and brother, Leonard Schrank.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Johnson, Jerry King, Michael Crager and Palmer Teichelman.

In lieu of flowers, Will has requested donations to the Christian Information and Service Center, 501 S. Angelina, Lufkin, Texas 75904; Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Ave., Lufkin, Texas; or charity of your choice.
