Graveside services for William Eldon Goldman, 82, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Brother Nathan Pannell officiating.
Mr. Goldman was born August 30, 1930 in Lovelady, Texas to the late Gertrude Elizabeth (Pegoda) and David Monroe Goldman. He died Sunday, January 27, 2013 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Goldman was a retired Lime Kiln operator for Champion Paper Mill following 36 years of service. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and had lived in Lufkin for the past 62 years.
Mr. Goldman left home to join the Navy at the age of 16, which was younger than the minimum age limit. Due to the minimum weight requirement, he had to consume numerous bananas. In 1946, he was involved in the atomic bomb experiment, Operation Crossroads, on the Marshall Islands and the Bikini Atoll.
Throughout his life, Mr. Goldman's interests included gardening, farming, raising cattle, as well as deer hunting and fishing. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and spent many hours of double-shifts to provide for his family that he loved so much.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Glynna and Michael Nichols, Cyndi and Michael Brittain, all of Lufkin, and Teresa and Spencer Carson of Round Rock; grandchildren, Ashly Hutson and husband Jeff of Lufkin, Brandi Harrison of Austin, Cody Nichols of Lufkin, Jarrett Harrison of Lufkin, Seth Carson and Kailey Grace Carson, both of Round Rock; great grandchildren, Chase Hutson of Lufkin, Ruben Rivera of Austin, and Blake Hutson of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Gerry Biggs of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Opal Perkins of Nacogdoches, LaFaye Perkins of Lufkin; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.
Mr. Goldman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice Perkins Goldman; his beloved daughter, Paula Goldman Harrison; his parents; brothers, Roy Goldman, Clifton Goldman, Bobby Goldman, Horace Goldman and Carl Goldman; and a sister, Dorothy Palmer.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
