William A. Weems

William A. ""Pete"" Weems, 95, of Lufkin died Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Weems was born April 24, 1917 in Hortense, Texas to the late Lawson Melvin and Ufa (Parrish) Weems. A former resident of Hondo, he had resided in Lufkin for the past 5 years.

Mr. Weems served in the U.S. Army, and was the General Manager of W.T. Carter & Brothers in Camden from 1948 until the sale of the mill in 1968. He was well known for his active participation in the Texas Forestry Association, having served as President and member of the Texas Lumber Manufacturers Association board of directors. Mr. Weems had also served on the school board of the Camden Independent School District.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Brenda Meyer of Houston, Mike and Jan Weems of Hondo and William A. ""Pat"", Jr. and Cindy Weems of Lufkin; daughter, Mary E. Weems of Corsicana; grandchildren, Adrienne M. Schwartz and husband Brent, Audrey M. Hollis and husband Chas, Anne M. Gerken and husband Gabe, Jonathan D. Weems and wife Amber, Holly E. Weems, and William Bryan Weems; and great-grandchildren, Hunter D. Schwartz, Hudson M. Schwartz, Dottie L. Gerken, Greta E. Gerken, Riley K. Weems, and Heidi E. Hollis.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Ann Weems, in January 2011.
