Noah Edward Gilcrease

Funeral services for Noah Edward Gilcrease, 81, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andy Pittman and Reverend Raymond Dunkin officiating. Interment will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery.

Mr. Gilcrease was born April 12, 1930 in the Saron Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late Roberta (Stanley) and William Ed Gilcrease, and died Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mr. Gilcrease had resided in Lufkin for 60 years and retired from the Texas Department of Transportation Traffic Division in September 1993, after 23 years of service. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

Mr. Gilcrease was an endowed member of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M. He was initiated March 8, 1976 and became a Master Mason February 17, 1978. Mr. Gilcrease was also a member of the Lufkin Lodge #240 where he was actively involved as a Sentinel for the Commandery from 2000 until the present. He was awarded the Golden Trowel Award December 10, 2005, which is the highest award given in Masonry.

Mr. Gilcrease loved fishing and hunting and was a longtime member of Cypress Lake Hunting Club. Even when he could no longer hunt he loved going down into the club and visiting with the other members.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jennie Gilcrease of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Naomi and Charles Anthony of Diboll, Darnell and Herman Rogers of Huntington and Judy Rogers of Groveton; brothers and sister-in-law, James and Clovis Gilcrease of Huntington and Donald Gilcrease of Pineland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ray Anthony, Brad Lawrence, Scott Sagner, Norman Green, Jack Green and Charles Anthony.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin?s First Baptist Church, 106 East Bremond Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901 or Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family wishes to express our sincere thanks to the Hospice in the Pines Inpatient Unit for the loving care that was given to him during his last days.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
