Funeral services for Ross D. Sims, 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, June 4, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Fred Smith and Brother Floyd Slaughter officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Sims was born November 22, 1929 in Huntington, Texas to the late Mary Avis (Pouland) and Marian Earl Sims, and died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in a local nursing home. He had resided in Lufkin most of his life and was a meter reader for Texas Power and Light. Mr. Sims was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Garry Bentley of Etoile; granddaughters, Leslie Pierce and Angela Bentley; grandsons, Christopher Zurga and Dakota Johnson; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his daughter, Pam Johnson; brother, Gene Sims; sisters, Jeanette Neal and Billie Miller; and special friend, Dorothy Hurst.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Zurga, Bobby Sims, Michael Sims, Richard Thomas, Mike Lisenby and Craig Lee.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
