John H. Pouland

Funeral services for John H. Pouland, Sr., 82, of Lufkin will be held Friday, October 15, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor Mardy Guidry officiating. Interment will follow in the Wallace Chapel Cemetery.

Brother John was born August 9, 1928 in Pollok, Texas to the late Lillie (Walker) and Hugh Pouland, and through God's plan of salvation at Mt. Calvary he crossed the Jordan River on Monday, October 11, 2010.

A former resident of Houston, he returned to Angelina County to reside in Lufkin for the past 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman during the Korean War, and worked as a surveyor for Everitt Griffith and Associates. Brother John loved the Lord, his family and the outdoors, to garden, hunt and fish. Special moments in his lifetime included caring for others and attending the Houston Astros games with Taxi and Dora Hundley.

Survivors include his Christian wife of 57 years, Mary Frances Pouland of Lufkin; daughters and son-in-law, Cindy Pouland of Huntington, Carol and Larry Cox of Wichita Falls; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny, Jr. and Robin Pouland of Houston, Hugh and Johnnie Faye Pouland of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jasen and Bryan Pouland, Jennifer Cox, Lindsey Harmon, Zach, Jacob, Joshua and Jesse Pouland; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Makenna, Noah and Kya Pouland, Braden and Audris Pouland and Kaitlyn Fields; sister, Wilma Mixon of Woodville; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Brother John was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Pallbearers will be Larry Cox, David Jansen, D.J. Harmon, Jasen Pouland, Jacob Pouland and Joshua Pouland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Taxi Hundley, Gene Baker, Bryan, Zach, Andrew, Noah and Jesse Pouland.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
