Funeral services for Hosia L. Harris, 79, of Lufkin will be held Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in the Dunk Havard Cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born October 26, 1930 in the Saron Community of Angelina County, Texas, to the late Liza (Hammons) and Thomas Harris. He died Friday, February 26, 2010 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Harris was a retired crane operator for Lufkin Industries, following 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Mr. Harris was baptized at the Shawnee Church of Jesus Christ. He loved to travel, was a lifelong country music fan, and a friend to all he met. Formerly a resident of Zavalla, Mr. Harris had resided in Lufkin most of his life.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Delbert Jones of Zavalla; granddaughters, Misty Mitchell and husband Gary of Zavalla, and Holly Jones of Austin; great-grandchildren, Tristin and Trinity Mitchell of Zavalla; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Menford Harris, L.J. Harris and Harvey Harris; and three sisters, Aline Curry, Alice Harris and Elsie Schlenkrich.
Pallbearers will be Ray Harris, Keith Harris, Kellon Harris, Terry Harris, Joey Harris and Donnie Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Denman, William Harris, Lee Roy Green, Kenneth Hollingsworth, Vernon Havard, J.W. Knight, B.A. Goodwin, B.G. ""Van"" Scarborough, Chuck Skinner, Hubert Roebuck, Vernice Roebuck and Edward Curry.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. evening at the funeral home.
