Funeral services for Cadence ""Pookie"" Simmons, 5, of Hudson will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carpenter's Way Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Wilke officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery.

Cadence was born November 4, 2005 in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of Lindsey (Ferguson) and Colt Simmons. She won her battle with leukemia and went to be with Jesus Saturday, November 13, 2010.

Cadence was a very courageous, beautiful and loving child. She loved her parents, brother, family and friends. She was a ""cowgirl"" who loved dressing in her pink boots, cowgirl clothes, and riding a horse. Cadence loved babies. She liked books, music, puzzles and swinging. Cadence loved playing with her cousins and friends. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Cadence was a fighter with a strong will to live. In her short life she has touched the hearts of many people. She will be forever in our hearts.

Cadence's family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston for the loving care given to her. Also special thanks to all the family and friends that prayed for them and supported them during this time.

Survivors include her parents, Lindsey and Colt Simmons of Hudson; brother, Cobe Simmons of Hudson; grandparents, Diane Maddox of Hudson and Bobby and Kathy Ferguson of Alto; aunts and uncles, Cassidy Modisette of Alto, Jaime Varner of Lufkin, Mark and Tina Glover of Wells, Kevin and Colleen Fitts of Rusk and D.C. Simmons of Alto; 16 cousins; a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, R.V. ""Pawee"" Maddox; and uncle, Justin Modisette.

Pallbearers will be Casey Johnson, Macon Maddox, Timmy Germany and Bruce Childers.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
