Herman Lenwood Hendrix

Funeral services for Dr. Herman Lenwood Hendrix, 76, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Roberts and Rev. Sonny DePrang officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery.

Dr. Hendrix was born October 29, 1934 in Doucette, Texas to the late Elizabeth (Lewis) and Oscar Lee Hendrix, and died Saturday, January 15, 2011. He served the Lord as a pastor for 55 years in Hallsville, Irving, Queen City, Bossier City, LA, Wichita Falls and Lufkin. More than anything, Dr. Hendrix loved the Lord and his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and true friend. Dr. Hendrix enjoyed making other people smile and laugh with stories and practical jokes. After graduating from Lufkin High School, he was an all-conference running back and four year letterman at Stephen F. Austin and still holds records for the Jacks. He was inducted into the SFA Jacks of Honor in 2003. He graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary and later completed his doctorate at Luther Rice Seminary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Hendrix, Tommy Hendrix, James (Frances) Hendrix, Robert (Booger) Hendrix; and sister, Margaret Morgan.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Billie Hendrix of Lufkin; son, Chad and wife, Rocio of Austin; grandchildren, Nathan, Calvin and Victoria of Austin; brother, Henry of Beaumont; as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Leroy Faith, Langston Kerr, David May, Charlie Brazil, Curtis Conatser and Donald Morgan.

Honorary Pallbearers are the men of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4172 Highway 103 West, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family extends special thanks and God's blessings to Ann May as well as the doctors and staff of the Memorial Hospital LTAC Unit and their wonderful care and devotion to Dr. Hendrix during his stay.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
