Funeral services for Reverend Kirby Choate, 75, of Huntington will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Pastor David Craig and Pastor Franklin Spruiell officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.
Reverend Choate was born December 9, 1934 in Goose Creek (Baytown), Texas to the late Ida Violet (Dod) and Luther Jerome Choate. He died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his residence.
Reverend Choate had resided in the Huntington area for the past 14 years, and was a former resident of Baytown. He was a graduate of Horace Mann Junior High and Lee Junior College in Baytown. He was also a graduate of the Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma, and was a Nazarene Minister for 26 years for his Lord. He loved playing and watching golf, as well as fishing and hunting. Reverend Choate was a member of Lufkin's First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jannie F. (Weisinger) Choate of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, John and Marilyn Jean (Williams) Choate of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Joanna Ruth and Raymond Richey of Harlingen; brother and sister-in-law, Luther James and Lois Choate of Baytown; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy Jane and Calvin Morgan of Lake Fork and Virginia Gaye and Joe Rouse of Tri-City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe Bob and Lanelle Weisinger, Ernest E. and Roberta Weisinger, Elsie (Hopkins) Weisinger, Annie (Jones) Weisinger and LaVora Choate; grandsons, Noah M. Edger, Andrew Richey and wife Priscilla and Matthew Richey; great-grandson, Jacob Waller; granddaughters, Rhonda Richey Barron and husband Joe and Melanie Richey Cropper and husband Justin; great-granddaughter, Jaleign Noel Waller; special friends, Ruth, Laura, and Barbara Burditt of Lindsay, Oklahoma; 28 special nephews and nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Lewis Choate.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Williams, Ernest Weisinger, Shane Gordon, Billy Joe Rouse, Gene Dean, Jr., and Ben Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Neal Stephens, Jeremy Spears and David Boyd.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lufkin's First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1604 South Medford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
