Funeral services for Latheta Buford Cassels, 73, of Huntington will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Shawnee Prairie Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Cary Modisett, Brother Chris Turner and Brother Gary Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Manning Cemetery.
Mrs. Cassels was born April 20, 1937 in the Shawnee Prairie Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late Lillie (Day) and Bloomer F. Buford, and died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in a Nacogdoches hospital.
Mrs. Cassels was born and raised in the Shawnee Prairie Community. She retired from the Texas Department of Human Services in 1997 following 23 years of service. Mrs. Cassels enjoyed mowing her yard, gardening and attending to her Brahman cattle. She loved pleasing others. Mrs. Cassels liked to cook and was known for her coconut pies and homemade jelly. In addition to her own she nurtured many, and was lovingly known as ""Theta"". Mrs. Cassels was a member of the Shawnee Prairie Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karon and Larry Joiner of Shawnee Prairie; son, Alan Cassels of Huntington; daughter-in-law, Donna Cassels of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Janet Cassels of Lufkin; daughter, Tommie Jean Major of Mobile, Alabama; granddaughter, Raegan Cassels and fiance Kelly Williamson of Pollok; grandson, Eli Joiner of Shawnee Prairie; a number of other grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Marwood and Yvonne Buford of Shawnee Prairie; nephew and nieces, Edwin Buford, Aleta Ross and Ouida Buford, all of Shawnee Prairie; and an abundance of special friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cassels was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Cassels in 1996.
Pallbearers will be Bubba Loggins, Greg Spivey, Greg Ashanbranner, Doug Johnson, David Kelly and Lance Jacobs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Williamson, Mike Young, Ben Vance, Raymond Havard, Curtis Spivey, Robin Reynolds, Hollis Marshall and Don Flournoy.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
