Funeral services for Ira Lee Jones, 75, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, December 20, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Carl Ray Walker and Brother M.D. Scarbrough officiating. Interment will follow in the Pollok Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born March 30, 1935, in Zavalla, Texas, to Aletha Doris (Grimes) and the late Harvey Lee Jones. He died Saturday, December 18, 2010 in a Lufkin nursing facility.

Mr. Jones served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 16 years, during which he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War, and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Marksmanship Rifle Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Vietnam Service Medal, and the Gallantry Cross. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Jones had resided in Lufkin for the past 40 years, and was retired from Lufkin Industries following 20 years of service as a machine operator. He loved his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Mr. Jones was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Maxine Jones of Lufkin; daughters, Marvana Cook, and Lynda Bowman and husband Danny, all of Diboll; grandchildren, Misty Cook Terrazas and husband Ruben, Jason Cook, Sr., and wife Pam, Hannah Bowman Pierce and husband Jason; great grandchildren, Jacie Cook, Jason (Bubba) Cook, Jr., Ashtin Cook, Brianna Terrazas, Alexi Terrazas, Rylea Terrazas, Hagen Pierce, and Westin Pierce; mother, Aletha Grimes Jones of Lufkin; brother, George Jones and wife Lisa of Oklahoma; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Lee Jones; brothers, David Jones and Dan Jones; sister, Doris (Sissy) Jones; granddaughter, Jennifer Lea Bowman; and son-in-law, Larry L. Cook.

Pallbearers will be Ruben Terrazas, Jason Pierce, Ruben Terrazas, Sr., Jason Cook, Sr., Jason Cook, Jr., and Danny Bowman.

The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Memorial's Specialty Unit and to Dr. Jansen Todd and his staff.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
