Sarah Clark Dunn

June 22, 1931 — March 31, 2010

Funeral services for Sarah ""Tootie"" Clark Dunn, 78, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Providence Baptist Church with Reverend Carroll Hambrick and Reverend Bryan Lipscomb officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Sarah was born June 22, 1931 in Trinity County, Texas to her parents, the late J.E. and Oda Clark. She went home to be with the Lord at her home in Lufkin on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. She was an active member of Providence Baptist Church for her whole life. Sarah was a 1950 graduate of Hudson High School, and she worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 23 years.
On August 3, 1950 Sarah married her high school sweetheart, Rufus Dunn. During the 59 years that they spent together, they made a home in Lufkin, and raised two beautiful daughters, Suzanne and Lisa, who are both graduates of Hudson High School. Sarah, affectionately called ""Tootie"" by her family and friends, lived a life full of love. Tootie was a loving, devoted wife to her husband, a loving mother to her daughters, a wonderful mother-in-law, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a woman that was a blessing to everyone she met.
Tootie led an active life. Rufus and Tootie loved to travel and were constantly visiting the far reaches of this great country. Tootie's pride and joy was her yard at her home on Highway 94 in Lufkin, where she would constantly work, winter or summer, decorating, planting or watering flowers, in order to make everything just right. She also loved to cook for her family. Her satisfaction was making sure that everyone had more than enough. Every Christmas Eve, the Clark family met at her home where there was a full meal, lots of fellowship, and Santa Claus made a very special visit to hand out presents to all of the children. Before presents were handed out, The Christmas Story was always read. She never wanted the meaning of Christmas to be forgotten. Her house and shop were always decorated inside and out with lights and decorations, along with a yard full of Christmas characters. To Tootie, Christmas was the most wonderful season of the year.
Survivors include her husband, Rufus Dunn of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Richard Jones of Lufkin and Lisa and Jim Childs of Timpson; grandchildren, Trista and Kris Whisenant, Keith and Rhonda Jones, and Bobby and Karen Jones, all of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Lauran Jones, Katelyn Jones, Kaylee Jones, Hunter Jones, Sara Ann Jones and Luke Whisenant; sister, Laverne Starkey of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Barbara Clark and Sara Clark, both of Lufkin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
