Funeral services for Jesse Lois Sturrock, 95, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles M. Roberts officiating. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Colmesneil City Cemetery.
Mrs. Sturrock was born April 26, 1915 in Lexington, Texas to the late Sue Etta (Heath) and Benjamin Franklin Caraway, and died Sunday, November 28, 2010 in a local retirement facility.
A former resident of Pasadena and Colmesneil, Mrs. Sturrock had resided in Lufkin for 8 years. She attended Lee Jr. College, and received her Bachelor and Masters Degrees of Special Education from the University of Houston. She taught Special Education at Galena Park ISD from 1965 to 1978. Mrs. Sturrock was also a freelance art teacher. She loved learning as well as teaching.
Mrs. Sturrock was a member of the Northshore Area Art League in Houston from 1976-1977, Jasper Fine Arts League from 1985-1986, President of the Pasadena Art League from 1980-1981, member of the Mem. American Watercolor Society, the Watercolor Society of Houston, Water Color USA, Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Colmesneil.
Survivors include her granddaughters, Leslie Upchurch of League City and Britta Jean Franklin of Bastrop; grandson, Benjamin Boedeker of Pasadena; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alma Jones and Estel McCarty, both of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Craig Sturrock of Nederland and Jim and Peggy Sturrock of Abilene; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sturrock was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Glenn Sturrock; son, John Caraway Boedeker; granddaughter, Suzanne Lotridge; great-granddaughter, Courtnei Lotridge; sisters, Bennie Holley, Dora Lyles and Estelle Crawford; and brothers, Marion Caraway, R.B. Caraway, H.R. Caraway and Ledy Caraway.
Pallbearers will be Ben Boedeker, Bob Upchurch, Eric Patterson, Allen Franklin, Jimmy Cloud, Garry Ray, Michael Caraway and Ross Caraway.
The family extends special thanks to her niece, Barbara Ray.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
