Funeral services for Lema Joe Johnson Thompson, 83, of the Beulah Community will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with interment following the services. Reverend Bud Bonner will officiate.
Mrs. Thompson was born March 22, 1927 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Marjorie Emma (Anderson) and Ashley Green Johnson, and died Monday, November 22, 2010 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Thompson lived her entire life in Angelina County. She married Elzy D. ""Slick"" Thompson in 1946, and in 1955 they moved to the Beulah Community where they raised cattle until his death November 15, 2003. Her ""outside the home"" working years were spent at Angelina County Lumber Co., Owens Illinois, Inc., and Lufkin Industries Trailer Division.
Mrs. Thompson was personally known as ""Joe"". She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, the Leach Sunday school class, and the Sewing and Craft Circle of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her son, Mark Ashley and his wife Patricia; granddaughter, Ashley Stewart and her husband Lee; granddaughter, Margie Jo Thompson; sister-in-law, Mary Thompson; four nieces; and three nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her sister, Rena Flo Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Lang Thompson, Zane Thompson, Larry Thompson, Lynn Cummings, Jimmy Easterly and Ron Ciesiel.
Honorary pallbearer will be Lee Stewart.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
