Funeral services for Mike S. Boatman, 58, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend D. Nick Sholars officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Springs Cemetery in Nacogdoches County.
Mike was born August 25, 1951 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Merle (Wright) and Lessie Boatman, and died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at his residence.
Mike grew up and attended school in Garrison. He earned Psychology and Accounting degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University. A former resident of Nacogdoches, Mike had resided in Lufkin for 13 years and was the Vice-President of Texas Timberjack, Inc., where he had been employed for 23 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball, and enjoyed coaching his sons Upward Basketball teams and Lufkin Youth Baseball. Mike loved attending classic rock concerts. He was affectionately known as ""Big Mike"" to his family and friends in Garrison. Mike was a devoted father to his two sons and was very involved in all of their activities. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin.
Survivors include his sons, Chris Boatman and Brad Boatman, both of Lufkin; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene and Jim Rains of Nacogdoches, Barbara Moore of New Caney and Judy Cochran of Livingston; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Lynda Jo Boatman.
Pallbearers will be Eck Franks, Mitch Beard, Brett Rains, Jeff Moore, Harold Estes and Mike Fenley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Moore, Jeffrey Cagle and Simon Hughes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1125 Judson Road #150, Longview, Texas 75601 or the Lufkin Panther Baseball Fan Club, P.O. Box 2213, Lufkin, Texas 75902.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
