Funeral services for Melton Roy ""Bill"" Evans, 69, of Zavalla will be held Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Zavalla First Baptist Church with Pastor Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery.
Mr. Evans was born June 6, 1941 in San Augustine County, Texas to the late Iletha Laverne (Smith) and William Carroll ""Pete"" Evans, and passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at his home in Zavalla with his loving family at his bedside.
Mr. Evans grew up in Zavalla and was a 1961 graduate. He had resided in Angelina County most of his life and was a retired welder. He fought a three year battle with Leukemia. Mr. Evans' life was a testimony of his salvation and an inspiration as a father and husband to those who follow in his footsteps. He was a honest, honorable, humble and giving man who was respected and loved by his family and anyone who knew him. Mr. Evans enjoyed teaching and spending time with his grandchildren, joking, laughing and telling stories. He was a faithful servant and active member of Zavalla First Baptist Church, formerly of Alco Baptist and Rocky Hill Baptist Church of Huntington.
Those who most cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Virginia ""Ginger"" Bryan Evans of Zavalla; daughter, Tammy Melissa Lacey of Lufkin; sons, Timothy Roy ""Tim"" Evans and wife Ann of Zavalla and Mark Shane Evans and wife Tina of Lufkin; grandchildren, Cody Paul Lacey and wife Tawnee of Lubbock, Chase Daniel Lacey of Garland, Joshua Roy Evans, Karla Cheyanne Evans, both of Zavalla, Erica Shay Evans and Morgan Nicole Evans, both of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Doris and Virgil Havard of Zavalla; sisters-in-law and husbands, Connie and Larry Varner of Nacogdoches and Cathy and Robert Foss of Missouri; brothers-in-law, Charles Bryan and James Bryan; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie DuBose and Mary Ann Evans; and brother, Leo Evans.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Zavalla First Baptist Church.
