Funeral services for Billy Green, 70, of Huntington, will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brad Loser officiating. Interment will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery.
Mr. Green was born April 8, 1940, in Buna, Texas, to Sadie (Westberry) and the late OB Green. He passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Huntington Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Billy's family moved to Huntington when he was 5 years of age. He was raised in church and, at the age of 17, he surrendered his life to the Lord in the Salem Baptist Church. He was active in church activities. He was also a Scout leader in his teens.
Billy served his country in the United States Army for nine years. He was a helicopter mechanic, and served in Vietnam. While in the Army, he was sent to air traffic control school in Mississippi. He also obtained his pilot's license and was an avid sky diver. He worked for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport for 25 years as a chemical engineer until he retired in 1997 and returned to live in Huntington.
Survivors include his three sons, Kevin Green of Huntington, Jason and Dwan Green of Lake Jackson, and Matthew and Erica Green of Clarksville, Tennessee (Matt is stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky); his mother and stepfather, Sadie Green Thomas and W.T. Thomas of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Marjane Green of League City; four grandchildren, Tyler, Natalie, Ryan and Haley; aunt, Mary Beth Fitzsimmons of Huntington; uncle and aunt, Dick and Gladys Westberry of West Columbia, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Green, Darren Green, Chris Green, Jessie Coonce, Doyle Thornton and Darryl Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904; to the Huntington Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 220 E. Ash St., Huntington, Texas 75949; or to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Huntington Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and to Hospice in the Pines.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
