Funeral services for Kathryn W. Squyres, 89, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Jacob Fitzgerald and Brother Harold Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Cemetery.
Mrs. Squyres was born November 17, 1920, in the Beulah Community, Angelina County, Texas, to the late Mary (Courtney) and Reed B. Weeks. She died Thursday, September 9, 2010 in a Lufkin hospice facility.
Mrs. Squyres had lived in Lufkin most of her life. She was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Zavalla. Mrs. Squyres was a former 40-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Lufkin where she worked in the Nursery for 30 years, taking care of more than two generations of children.
In the Squyres family, the kitchen table was the heart of the family. Mrs. Squyres always prepared a favorite meal for each family member's birthday. She had the unique ability to make each grandchild feel like they were so special and were her favorite.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Steve Moss of San Augustine, Carolyn and Harold Sloan of Zavalla; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Nancy Squyres of Houston, Reggie and Debbie Squyres, Rodney and Reba Squyres, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Clint Saulsbury, Lisa Raines, Ellen Wood, Kimberly Sloan, R. Bunker Squyres, Becky Squyres, Ryan B. Squyres, Reagan B. Squyres, Robert B. Squyres, J. Nick Hinson, and Reed B. Squyres, who is currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; twelve great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Reginald Squyres of Lufkin; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Stacey Richardson and Carolyn Nichols.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryce Squyres; son, Bob Squyres; grandson, Tony Sloan; brother, Larlin Weeks; sisters-in-law, Ruth Grant, Rachel Perry Dowling and Margaret Smithhart; and brother-in-law, Ralph Squyres.
Mrs. Squyres' seven grandsons will be serving as her pallbearers.
The family extends a special thanks to Hospice in the Pines.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
