Funeral services for Violet Grace Gibson, 90, longtime resident of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Dr. Andy Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Gibson was born August 23, 1920, in Dalhart, Texas, to the late Naomi May (Gulick) and Robert Elmer Cannon. She died Saturday, January 29, 2011 in a Nacogdoches hospital.
Mrs. Gibson was a secretary at Lufkin's First Baptist Church for more than 35 years. She was a longtime member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church, where she also served as secretary of the pre-school class. Mrs. Gibson was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star, the Altrusa Club, and the Cut-n-Grow Garden Club.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald E. ""Ronnie"" and Julia Gibson of Nacogdoches, Daryl W. ""Buddy"" and Elaine Gibson of Willis; grandchildren, Talicia Raesner of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Leslie Lightsey of Cedar Park, Wayne Gibson and wife Lana of Pearland, and Tracey Barnett and husband Chris of Springs; and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibson was also preceded in death by her husband, E.L. ""Red"" Gibson.
Pallbearers will be Ray Adams, Chris Barnett, Wayne Gibson, Dylan Lewis, Darren Senior and Tucker Westerman.
