Mary Edna Freeman Lee

Funeral services for Mary Edna Freeman Lee, 77, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor Mardy Guidry officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Mrs. Lee was born August 27, 1933 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Florence Edna (Gann) and David Richard Freeman, and died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Lee was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. She received Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Alpha Mu Gamma Modern Language Society. Mrs. Lee taught at Lufkin ISD for 20 years and in 1978 was selected for Who's Who Among American Teachers. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Joseph Collins Chapter, and a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Lee and Nancy Lee of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda Alexander and Greg Alexander of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jasper Lee and Terri Lee of Lufkin; granddaughters, Jennifer Lee Smith, Brittney, Jasmine, Lauren and Madeleine Lee; special friends, Vicky Mann and Mary Lamont; special nurse, Pam Perez; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Buren ""J.B."" Lee, Jr.; brothers, D.L., George, Jim, Claude and Richard Freeman; and sisters, Nell Arrington, Katherine Pennington and Winnie Boone.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Lee, Dan Lamont, Clay Harris, David Culp, Quintin Berwick and Paul Rhoden.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
