Funeral services for Thelma ""Angel"" Thomas, 89, of Huntington will be held Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Huntington First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Nichols and Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Thomas was born March 23, 1921 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas to the late Lynn (McKinney) and Roy Thomas Smith, and died Thursday, September 30, 2010 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Thomas' family moved to Austin in 1932. In October 1936 she married Sam Thomas and their daughter, Sammy Lynn, was born in 1948. Mrs. Thomas was President of the Summitt School PTA in Austin from 1956 to 1957, Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Blum Chapter #931, and of the Huntington Chapter #938 from 1985 to 1987. She was WMU Director at Portland Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Baptist Women President at Lufkin's First Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas taught Sunday school classes, Vacation Bible School, Backyard Bible Schools, calligraphy classes, knitting classes and art and ceramics classes. She received an Associate's Degree from Angelina College at the age of 78.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Thomas was interested in making her home a warm, hospitable place for her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.

Mrs. Thomas enjoyed studying the Bible and giving book reviews. She and her husband studied together, read books to each other and traveled extensively.

Mrs. Thomas loved music, and composed songs and set poetry to music. She was a singer in her younger years. Mrs. Thomas dedicated her life to serving her Lord. She was faithful to the church and to her husband. Her love for people caused her to reach out to others in kindness and understanding.

Survivors include her husband of 74 years, Reverend Sam Thomas of Huntington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, W.T. and Sadie Thomas of Huntington; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her daughter, Sammy Lynn Geeteh.

Pallbearers will be Doyle Thornton, Joe Noel, Gregg Boston, Darrell Bryan, Gene Baker, Ronnie Singleton, Ed Few and James Lovett.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
