Funeral services for Tom R. Nixon, 75, of Apple Springs will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Henderson Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin with Reverend D. Nick Sholars officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Trinity County.

Mr. Nixon was born December 27, 1934 in Paris, Texas to the late Ruby Jo (Rivers) and Albert Nixon, and died Saturday, December 25, 2010 in a Houston hospital.

A former resident of Houston, Mr. Nixon had resided in the Angelina and Trinity County areas for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a district manager for Safeway Stores. After retiring from Safeway Stores he worked for Brookshire Brothers, and most recently owned the All Kleen Window Washing Service. Mr. Nixon was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin and the Musselwhite Sunday school class. He was passionately involved in both the Kairos Prison Ministry and the Emmaus Ministry.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Frankie Lee Nixon of Apple Springs; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kelley Nixon of Houston and Craig and Jodi Nixon of Anderson, Indiana; grandsons, Cody Nixon, Casey Nixon, both of Houston and Noah Nixon of Anderson, Indiana; granddaughters, Reagan Nixon, Kylie Nixon, both of Houston and Sydney Nixon of Anderson, Indiana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Delores Nixon of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Gayle and Patsy Nixon of Tyler and Geary and Barbara Nixon of Rockaway, New Jersey; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kairos Prison Ministry, 6903 University Blvd., Winter Park, Florida 32792.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home, and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Henderson Chapel.
