Betty Jean Basham

Funeral services for Betty Jean Basham, 79, of Pollok will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and ""Sis"", Mrs. Basham went to be with the Lord Friday, March 4, 2011. She was born October 2, 1931 in San Augustine, Texas to Ira S. and Gladys (Tillman) Mathews. She was a retired teller supervisor from First Bank and Trust and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Mrs. Basham loved being around her family and continued even through her illness to plan get-togethers, especially when her grandchildren were home from college. She loved attending any event in which her children and grandchildren were involved. She was our number one supporter. Time will heal our hearts but will never fill the void left by her passing.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 59 years, Don Basham of Pollok; daughters, Donna Townsend of Pollok and Debra Allen and husband Jeff of Pollok; grandchildren, Brittney Townsend and Blake Townsend, both of Pollok; sisters, Mable Akers and husband Ken of Lufkin, Marie Coulter and husband Edmund of Huntington and Marilyn Powell and husband Jimmy of Lufkin; brothers, Earl Mathews of Huntington, James Mathews and wife Jackie of Trinity and Tillman Mathews and wife Frankie of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Joe Basham of Pollok; sister-in-law, Helen Thrasher of The Colony; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ira S. Mathews; and mother, Gladys (Tillman) Mathews.

Pallbearers will be Nolan Arnold, Ronnie Davis, David Mathews, Jimmy Thrasher, Joe Scott and Jeff Scott.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
